Another mythical European tree, different from the Viking Yggdrasil, is the Avalon Apple Tree, of Celtic heritage. A great immortal apple tree that grows on the sacred island beyond the mists. Shown here in an ancient representation.
An iconic Celtic mythology sweatshirt
In Celtic mythology, the Beyond is often represented beyond the mists, with the island of Avalon. A legendary apple tree is said to stand there, growing apples of immortal youth. We thought this was a very classy idea, so we made an ultra-qualitative t-shirt out of it, with special details added to the Gallic arms in the bottom right-hand corner.
Our sweatshirt Celtic tree 100% organic Pommier d'Avalon confirms the rule. It resembles the Nordic tree Yggdrasil, but we wanted to innovate a little!
For the ancient Celts, the afterlife was often represented by an island hidden beneath the ocean mist. Far from the shores towards the West lies Avalon, the mythical island. It's here that departed heroes are carried to rest as the sun sets.
Avalon is also known asInsula Pomorum, the Isle of Apples. The root "Aval" is said to be Celtic for "apple". This is the land of eternal youth, where fruit is always ripe.
We know a lot about it thanks to the Arthurian gesture, but its existence is attested much earlier in history. So our Celtic tree t-shirt didn't come out of nowhere?
It was Pliny the Elder (1st century) who first wrote about it in his works on Natural History. He mentions an island rich in amber ore, where apples grow.
Sometimes confused with the Yggdrasil, the Nordic world tree, the Avalon Apple tree is associated with youth and wisdom.
Yes, it's that level of detail a t-shirt Runes de Chêne.
Admit it, you'd love to see it as the official t-shirt of an Interceltic festival?
